Azurite from the Villa di Livia's enchanting garden frescos inspired our May blue. In hand grinding this natural earth mineral, the artists produced varying particle sizes and shapes, enhancing the color's depth, and creating the mural's ephemeral atmospheres.
To mimic the multicolored resonance of this 1st century process, and compensate for the shallow dimension of current chemically synthesized blue colorants, we have added quantities of red, yellow, orange and violet.
