The cartoon sky of Harrison Cody’s Peter Rabbit tin plate is greener than the sky we observe overhead. But it evokes the spring we’re patiently anticipating after this year’s long winter. The warmth of April’s greenish blue has more yellow than the cooler atmosphere of nature’s sky, but contrasted behind the happy antics of Peter’s characters it does signal childhood contentment, another example of color sensations as more than exclusively visual.
